Under three hours on a fast local. Cheap, frequent, and no traffic to sit in.

Bhushi dam and Rajmachi point
Monsoon is the season. Everything is green, everything is also crowded, and it is still worth it.
Watch out
Bhushi dam gets genuinely dangerous in heavy rain. Do not go in the water when it is high.

Go on a weekday if you possibly can. Weekend Lonavala in monsoon is all of Mumbai at once.

Flew in to save a day, stayed near Lal Ghat, walked the old city.

Konkan Railway down, scooters the whole time, no plan beyond which beach for sunset.

Drive down the ECR, stay inside White Town, walk everywhere.
